The Wail always spawns a number of excellent new songs that are sung at the Mediaeval Banquet. For obvious reasons, many of them have a porcine theme. Here are some songs written for the Mediaeval Banquet in 2014.
Now we all like to drink and wail
In Verwood each September
We’ll sing our songs and drink ale (weak or strong)
Till the words we can’t remember
And we’ll sing as the pig turns round
In Verwood every year
Then we’ll sing its praise by the fire’s dying rays
Till the morning sun appears
Now some of us like cider (or wine)
And some don’t drink at all
But the song’s the thing, and we’ll help you all to sing
If the words you can’t recall
The top table likes the power
To make the peasants crawl
We’ll have to sing and trill if we want to eat our fill
Or we won’t eat at all
And everyone likes Alan White,
The reason why we’re here
So let’s rejoice and sing with heart and voice
And hope we’re all back next year
One last thing I should mention
About the Wail this year
And that is just, this year it’s in August
In September we won’t be here!
And we’ll sing as the pig turns round
In Verwood every year
Then we’ll sing its praise by the fire’s dying rays
Till the morning sun appears
